SUMMARY:Gen Silent
DESCRIPTION: Financial Focus and William Timpson\, CFP® will present a free exclusive screening of the critically-acclaimed award-winning documentary\, Gen Silent\, and a post-screening discussion on Financial & Life Planning for the LGBT senior community. Gen Silent is a new documentary from multi-award winning writer\, director and producer Stu Maddox (Bob and Jack's 52-Year Adventure\, Trip to Hell and Back) that asks six LGBT seniors if they will hide their friends\, their spouses - their entire lives in order to survive in the care system. They put a face on what experts in the film call an epidemic: LGBT seniors so afraid of discrimination\, neglect or abuse in long-term/health care that many go back into the closet\, isolating themselves from their community\, friends and life-long partners. Their surprising decisions are captured through intimate access to their day-to-day lives over the course of a year. As we journey through the challenges that these men and women face\, we also see reasons for hope as each subject crosses paths with a small but growing group of impassioned professionals trying to wake up the long-term and healthcare industries to their plight. William Timpson said\, "The first time I saw this I was in a room full of healthcare and hospice workers - halfway through the tissues started coming out. I thought\, ‘This is powerful. This needs to be seen\, it is a message that needs to be heard.’ And\, from our perspective\, it was additionally distressing because we know that there are good people out there who are willing and able to help\, if only we could get the message out." The screening\, which is exclusive and available only through Mad Stu Productions\, takes place at Prallsville Mills\, 33 Risler Street\, Stockton\, NJ from 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. A panel discussion and Q & A immediately follows the film presentation. Hors d’oeuvres and cocktails will be provided. RSVP preferred – to reserve a seat contact 973.533.0666 or GSfilm@financial-focus.net. SUMMARY:New Hope Park and Recreation Unveils New Phase of Mural Project
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of the completion of the latest phase in its tile mural project\, the New Hope Borough Park and Recreation Board will host an open house reception at the Community Room in the borough offices at 125 New Street at 6 pm on June 21. “We are excited about the progress that has been made in the development of the tile mural wall in the borough’s new community room\,” said Beth Hasher\, Chair of the Park and Recreation Board. New Hope Borough opened its new community room in December\, 2010 at 125 New Street in the historic community. The room provides beautiful\, bright space for public and private meetings\, events and activities in the heart of New Hope with ample room for convenient parking. As part of its goal to showcase its new hall\, the borough commissioned Preston and Sharon Harrison of Sharrison Studios of Washington Crossing\, Pennsylvania to design and install a tile mural on a large surface of the rear wall of the community room. The mural will feature scenes reflecting the historic town’s past and present by depicting the varied personalities\, groups and buildings that have made New Hope a vibrant community that has drawn countless thousands of visitors and residents over the past two and a half centuries. Measuring thirty-four feet wide and five feet high\, the colorful work of art will consist of six hundred tiles when it is fully completed. Each tile is six inches square. In January\, the first phase of the mural was completed with the installation of fifty tiles made possible by donations from sponsors within the community and elsewhere. For a contribution of one hundred dollars of which sixty dollars in tax-deductible\, sponsors can have their name permanently included on one of the colorful squares. The installation of the second phase of the project will be unveiled at the reception. Join the Park and Recreation Board for the celebration and meet the sculptor. Light refreshments will be served.

SUMMARY:Gratz Gallery - A Day of Appraisals and Conservation Estimates
DESCRIPTION:Appraisal Day is returning to the Gratz Gallery & Conservation Studio. People travel from near and far to this annual event\, with paintings and frames in-tow\, to get guidance on the value of their prized works of art and fine frames. If you’ve always wondered what that painting is worth that your grandparents gave you\, or what it would take to repair the rip in the painting that fell off the wall last year\, Gratz Gallery& Conservation Studio will be offering a day of appraisals and conservation estimates on Saturday\, May 5th\, from 11am to 4pm. This year\, to make the event even more exciting\, we are encouraging a donation of $20\, which will directly benefit A Woman’s Place\, Bucks County’s only domestic violence community benefit organization. Bring your grandmother’s portrait for a fair-market appraisal; find out what’s underneath that soot-darkened painting in your attic; bring yourBucksCounty art for a cleaning and repair estimate. This year the event will feature three fine art specialists: Paul Gratz\, owner and head conservator at Gratz Gallery & Conservation Studio; Cindy Charleston Rosenberg ISA CAPP\, President and Founder of The Art Appraisal Firm; and Lauren Bradley ISA AM\, Assistant Gallery Director of Gratz Gallery and an accredited member of the International Society of Appraisers. Due to the popularity of this annual event\, patrons are requested to limit their inquiries to two pieces per family. The appraisers will get to all the paintings they possibly can in the day.

SUMMARY:La Fiocco
DESCRIPTION:LA FIOCCO\, Bucks County’s new period instrument ensemble\, will present a concert of music of 17th-century Venice\, Naples\, and Rome\, entitled Che meraviglia è questa?\, What marvel is this? The program explores the remarkable changes in musical style that occurred in the early 1600s as Europe emerged from the polyphony and mannerism of the Renaissance. In music\, this marked the beginning of the Baroque era\, with the rise of the solo and trio sonata and the era of he virtuoso singer and player. The program will also include two works from the early 18th century that demonstrate the evolution of the Baroque tradition in Italy: a concerto for recorder by Alessandro Scarlatti\, and a secular cantata by Nicolo Porpora\, written during his sojourn in London in the early 1730s. Featured artists on this program are Edmond Chan and Agnes Simkens\, baroque violins; Robert Giglio cornetto (a hybrid instrument that resembles a large\, curved recorder but covered in leather and played with a small trumpet-like mouthpiece); Antonio Arosemena\, dulcian (a remote ancestor of the bassoon); Lynn Fergusson\, baroque cello; Richard Kolb\, theorbo and baroque guitar\, Benjamin T. Berman\, organ and harpsichord; La Fiocco artistic director Lewis R. Baratz\, performing on harpsichord and recorder\, and countertenor Joseph Hill singing monadic songs of Caccini (published in 1602) and the Porpora cantata. The concert will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church\, Solebury\, Pennsylvania. Tickets at the door ($20 general admission\, $17 seniors\, and $12 students\, cash sales only). For more information\, please visit www.lafiocco.org. La Fiocco is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization.

SUMMARY:Earthwork - A FIlm by Chris Ordal
DESCRIPTION:New Hope\, PA - New Hope Film Festival is proud to present Earthwork by filmmaker Chris Ordal at the County Theater in Doylestown\, Pennsylvania on Wednesday\, April 18\, 2012 at 7:30 PM. Earthwork received rave reviews from the audience during the 2010 New Hope Film Festival\, where Ordal walked away with a nomination for Best Picture. Earthwork went on to land a deal with Shadow Distribution. The film is based on the inspiring\, true-life story of Stan Herd\, a crop artist from Kansas who in 1994 traveled to Manhattan to create a massive environmental artwork on land owned by Donald Trump. Herd is played by Oscar nominee John Hawkes (Winter’s Bone). L.A.Times calls Earthwork “a flawless gem;” it is not to be missed. About the Festival The New Hope Film Festival was founded by D. F. Whipple\, an author\, screenwriter and long-time resident of the New Hope \, Bucks County area. Whipple formed the New Hope Film Festival with a group of artists who shared his passion for discovering and nurturing independent filmmakers\, especially those who’ve been overlooked by established festivals. This includes international films\, which the Festival is eager to attract. What Makes the Festival Different Our artistic standards are extremely high and neither budget nor name recognition will be a determining factor—the art must shine through. The best films will be selected. The Location Over the years\, New Hope has attracted and been home to many talented producers\, screenwriters\, actors\, playwrights\, and performance art enthusiasts. Home of the Bucks County Playhouse\, where actors such as Robert Redford\, George C. Scott\, Helen Hayes\, Andrea McArdle and Colleen Dewhurst have graced the stage. The village is centrally located less than an hour from Philadelphia and an hour and a half from New York.

SUMMARY:Eleanor Roosevelt at the Free Library of New Hope and Solebury
DESCRIPTION: Spend an evening with Eleanor Roosevelt! On Tuesday\, February 28th\, 7-8:30 pm\, the Free Library of New Hope and Solebury is presenting Linda Kenyon in\, "A Life of My Own: Meeting Eleanor Roosevelt". Hear some of her stories and learn how she went from a shy awkward child to an inspiration to people all over the world. Born into wealth\, educated in private schools\, niece to President Teddy Roosevelt\, wife to President Franklin Roosevelt\, Eleanor was destined to be in the shadow of her husband and family’s fame. The show illuminates some of her steps to becoming one of America’s most celebrated and outspoken first ladies as well as some of the controversial aspects to her marriage; namely her husband’s long time extramarital affair with Lucy Mercer. Our star\, actress Linda Kenyon lives in Solebury\, PA. She strikes an uncanny resemblance to the tall older Roosevelt. Her professional roles have included the Duchess of York in "Richard III" with the Virginian Shakespeare Company\, a screaming society woman in Chris Rock’s movie "Head of State" and Charlotte\, the Camp Director in Venus Theatre’s production of "Ugly Duckling". She is renowned for her impersonations of Eleanor Roosevelt and Julia Child. New Hope Solebury Free Library is very grateful to her for presenting this show for our community. The Library is proud to offer this one night only performance at no charge. You do not need a library membership or card to attend\, this is open to everyone. The library usually closes at 7pm on Tuesday but will be open for the show only on February 28th. If you would like more information about the show or the library\, please call us at 215-862-2330.

SUMMARY:Riverside Symphonia
DESCRIPTION:On February 26 the Riverside Symphonia in Lambertville will present celebrated violinist Lara St. John and internationally acclaimed harpist Marie-Pierre Langlamet in Basically Bach. These two extraordinary musicians are on tour to promote their new album\, Bach Sonatas. The program on February 26th includes works of Bach as well as pieces by Saint-Saens\, Schubert\, Faure\, and Sebastian Currier. The album will be released as an iTunes digital exclusive on January 10\, 2012 with a wide release to all retailers on Valentine’s Day\, February 14\, 2012. This is Lara St. John’s third foray into Bach on her Ancalagon label. About her first\, The Concerto Album released in 2002\, Gramophone wrote\, “she makes the most ordinary passages come to life.” Of her second album\, The Six Sonatas and Partitas for Violin Solo released in 2007\, American Record Guide stated\, “I simply don’t know where else you can go to hear Bach played at this level of artistry.” Lara St. John shares the inspiration behind this new collaboration: “I have had a lifelong relationship with Bach’s solo instrumental works\, from when I was four years old and first performed the double concerto with my brother\, to my first E Major Partita movements a few years later. As a Canadian I grew up with the omnipresent Glenn Gould. Oddly\, as a pre-teen\, I also developed an obsession with Bach’s organ works. The Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord eluded me. I never thought they quite clicked. With harpsichord\, I found them rather unsubtle\, and modern piano always seemed so heavy-handed and not quite right.” “A few years ago\, I was in Berlin staying with my old friend Marie-Pierre\, and she wanted to read some Bach. It was a revelation. All of a sudden\, this music made sense. With the harp as a partner\, the degree of nuance made possible for the violin created an entirely new experience. I thought that evening that I had never heard or been part of anything so beautiful.” “For this recording\, we chose sonatas that could be performed by Marie-Pierre exactly as written. In her hands\, the harp is a true multi-voice instrument—an equal partner in the faster movements\, yet capable of a luminescence in the quieter movements that no keyboard could ever match.” Marie-Pierre responds\, “Only Lara could have suggested such a crazy thing to do. I am really glad we did it\, for I feel the result is quite original. It is fascinating to watch Lara work\, a great mix of professionalism and complete freedom.” Marie-Pierre Langlamet has been principal harpist of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra since 1993. She was born in Grenoble\, France and has been earning international acclaim since she was 15. She was only 17 years old when she was appointed principal harpist of the Nice Opera Orchestra in France\, a position she held until she left to continue her studies at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia. At 20 she was appointed assistant principal harpist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. She has been called by some “the best harpist in the world today.” Canadian-born violinist Lara St. John has been described as “something of a phenomenon” by the Strad and a “high-powered soloist” by The New York Times. The Los Angeles Times says “Lara St. John happens to be a volcanic violinist with a huge tone that pours out of her like molten lava. But what makes her unique is the way she puts everything together. She has utter command of the material and the instrument.” (2011) Lara has performed on several occasions with the Riverside Symphonia over the years and has become a favorite within the local orchestral community. This chamber concert is a special event presented by the Symphonia on Sunday\, February 26 at 4 PM at the Church of St. John the Evangelist in Lambertville\, NJ. It promises to be an enjoyable opportunity to hear two world-acclaimed musicians combine their musical talents in an intimate setting. Tickets are $55\, $45\, $25\, and $20. Student tickets are $15. Tickets and more information are available by visiting www.riversidesymphonia.org or calling the Symphonia at 609-397-7300.

SUMMARY:Karla's Monday Nights
DESCRIPTION:New Hope\, PA – A staple of New Hope for more than 30 years\, Karla’s Restaurant still hasn’t missed a beat. Brainchild of New Hope entrepreneur\, Louis Zanias\, Karla’s has been offering their Local’s Night- every Monday\, fifty-two weeks a year\, for 25 years. “It’s definitely one of our most popular nights- where as most restaurants close Mondays\, we are always bustling” boasts longtime manager Cynthia Meyers about the concept she helped conceive. On Local’s Nights\, a full three course dinner is offered and affordably priced from $12-$19. Though the price points seem retro- the offerings are anything but dull. A favorite that has earned a permanent spot on the menu is Karla’s Famous Fried Chicken with Baked Mac and Cheese. Other options include roasted pork loin\, grilled flat iron steaks\, pasta and plenty of fresh seafood. To keep the concept fresh\, Head Chef Francisco “Pancho” Barrios changes the menu every week and holds off on announcing what will be on the menu until just minutes before it’s available. The historic building has a casual\, relaxing atmosphere with open air seating on the terrace and inviting indoor dining. Karla’s serves an American Fusion menu with a bistro feel\, a complete wine list and specialty oversized fresh fruit martinis using only the freshest ingredients available. In addition to the delicious food and cocktails\, Karla’s also offers live music. Local favorite\, Barry Peterson is known for his expansive repertoire from the swing era to classic rock’n roll and he happily takes requests. Music is from 7 – 9pm every Monday. Karla’s is the place to be on Monday Nights. For more information call 215-862-2612. Karla’s is also available for private parties and meetings.

SUMMARY:Gratz Gallery - Pennsylvania Impressionists & The New Hope Circle
DESCRIPTION: Gratz Gallery & Conservation Studio proudly presents\, Pennsylvania Impressionists & the New Hope Circle\, from Saturday\, October 8 through Saturday\, December 31\, 2011. This special exhibition focuses exclusively on Pennsylvania Impressionist artists\, including Walter Baum\, Rae Sloan Bredin\, William Lathrop\, Harry Leith-Ross\, Antonio Martino\, Edward Redfield\, George Sotter and others. Pennsylvania Impressionists & the New Hope Circle strives to pay homage to the creativity and adept skill of this unique school of painters. The exhibition will feature over 40 paintings by artists who settled and worked in the New Hope area in the first half of the 20th century. A particularly beautiful painting\, by Rae Sloan Bredin\, features the artist’s young daughter quietly sitting for her father as she clutches a small ragdoll. Also included is a rare and vibrant floral still life by John Folinsbee. Perhaps one of the largest and most important paintings in the exhibition depicts gorgeous clouds rolling above Bucks County farmland\, by George Sotter. There are also snow scenes by Walter Baum\, Fern Coppedge and Harry Leith-Ross\, as well as depictions of the Delaware Valley throughout other seasons. Paul Gratz\, owner and head-conservator of Gratz Gallery\, purchased his first Pennsylvania Impressionist painting nearly 35 years ago\, and from that point on he was dedicated to promoting this exceptional group of painters. Gratz Gallery has been representing the work of the Pennsylvania Impressionists for more than a decade\, having bought and sold some of the most brilliant examples of paintings from the school. In the late 1800s artists began settling in the geographic area of the Delaware Valley surrounding New Hope\, in part because of the beautiful vistas the area offered\, but also because of the accepting\, nurturing atmosphere of the area. The ever expanding group of painters was stylistically distinct\, yet sought each other’s advice and encouragement as artists; New Hope was truly a community of creativity! Today\, the New Hope Circle is recognized nationally\, if not internationally
